The other day on Facebook, one of my friends quoted Alanis Morrisette's song "Ironic" and I laughed when someone responded with the line, "it's like rain, on your wedding day!"
But what was really funny was when someone else said, "Remember when you hated that line, because it isn't really ironic?"
I laughed at that, because I always thought that too! It's not really irony, it's just weather.
But, here's a little something ironic. A little too ironic:
My first job was at the Learning Center, I don't remember what I made, but I'm sure at 14, it was equivalent to a million dollars. Anyways, my second job was at 17, and I made $8.00 an hour in a small, family -owned store. I wasn't yet a high school grad, but I was IN THE MONEY.
Then as a blessed Washingtonian, minimum wage went up every year and every job more than paid the bills while in college.
Now, as a college grad, living in New York, I have a job interview at Starbucks, and the manager said on the phone, "You know, before we move forward, I should tell you that we won't be able to pay you what you made at your last job....."
Now we've reached the irony. As a high school senior, with no bills, I didn't make less than $8 an hour, but as a college grad; ANYTHING is possible, folks!
Isn't it ironic?
Mmmm, mmmmm. Humble pie hasn't lost it's flavor.
You crack me up!
ReplyDeletei definitely don't make what a college grad should, either. more than ironic is that it's just LAME!
ReplyDeleteKate I love the new Spring-time motif. The flowers are so pretty and old fashioned! Very nice touch!
